Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea mapGonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease. Besides that, gonococcus (bacterium that causes gonorrhea) could be transmitted from mother to baby during delivery.

In the process of development gonorrhea affects surfaces covered with mucous membranes: small pelvis organs, bowels and visual organs. If not timely treated, gonococcus affects respiratory organs, vessels and nervous system. In most neglected cases the disease passes on the joints and causes blood poisoning.

After getting into human body gonococcus dwells in urethra. The disease manifests itself in a few days. It is characterized by foul- smelling yellowish discharge from urethra, unpleasant sensations during urination; the urethral orifice becomes swollen and reddish; rash break-out around it is also possible. However, in some cases the infection does not manifest itself anyhow (latent form of the disease).
If not treated gonorrhea will pass into a chronic form and symptoms will become less apparent.  When gonococcus gets into body through mouth, it first affects the mucous membranes of oral cavity. Gonococcus may also get into human body through eyes.  Such cases are not infrequent in small children. The eye-lids get swollen and puss is discharged from eyes; the eyes become sensitive to light.
